- Get to know our new students throughout the department: The BGSA is inviting new students (first 18 months of MSc or first 30 months of PhD) to present 3-minute speed talks on aspects of their research. We encourage project proposals, methods and skills talks, as well as updates on preliminary findings–let your fellow students know what you’re all about!
- The BGSA will also be unveiling it’s new project: The BGSA Help Desk. One session of speed talks will feature the skillsets of BGSA volunteers (e.g. R support, statistics advice, oral presentations, preparing for a QE) who will begin to hold office hours addressing these various subjects starting in 2017. See what your fellow students can do to help you!
- The flagship event of this conference is a workshop addressing implicit bias and discrimination, facilitated by two researchers on the leading edge of the push for equity in STEMM workplaces across Canada: Dr. Imogen Coe (Dean of Science and Professor of Biology at Ryerson University) and Dr. Dawn Bazely (Professor of Biology at York University). We believe that this is paramount to establishing a safe, tolerant, and equitable environment within the department.
We strongly encourage everyone in the biology department to attend this important event, including graduate students, post-docs, and faculty. In order to attend and/or present, you must register using the link below! It’s free and lunch will be included. Registration is open untilTuesday, November 15.
