Here with your weekly news.
1) BGSA room is now open!!
Thanks to everyone that came last night to help with setting up the room. There is still a lot of furniture that needs to be thrown away but is concentrated to one room. There will be a coffee hour this Friday at 10 am in case you want to check it out!! To book a room, please use the following booking calendar.
Also, there are no keys to the BGSA room anymore and is now accessed by code (52-4-1-3).
2) Workshop for undergrads eager to learn about grad school
I have recently been approached by Nancy Nelson who was wondering if some graduate students could hold a little workshop/ info session about all the tips and tricks associated with grad school (applying, funding, supervisor vs. student relationship, etc.). Now that the BGSA room is functional, I was wondering if there would be a few people that could volunteer their time to help me out with this. It will likely be a 1 hour Q & A in the BGSA room where undergrads will ask us questions and likely will happen within the next two weeks.
3) STEMM Diversity
On October 10, 2017 (Ada Lovelace Day) there will be a reception in the Redpath museum from 6-9pm for the launch of new STEMM Diversity @ McGill project. There will be a live Q&A panel with some of their interviewees, touchscreens, and projectors to watch the interviews and an introduction to the museum’s new coloring/activity book. For more information, visit their facebook event below:
4) Pumpkin carving!
Its that time of year! Fall has arrived and our annual pumpkin carving competition is soon approaching. This year the competition will be held on Halloween at 1 pm in the N4 lobby. Excited to see everyone’s creative designs!!
I forgot to include in the first weekly but the Molecular Biology Student Symposium (MBSS) is on October 13th (next Friday). The committee is still looking for people to sign up so please sign up ASAP. Anyone can attend, but please consider signing up for a mini-oral presentation or poster. Undergrads are more than welcome to participate as well! There will be first and second place prizes for best talks and posters. Coffee and food will be provided for the day! Sign up below
