We have so many important things coming up, make sure you read through this one!!!
1. Recruitment/Information night ❓🍻❓
We’ll be hosting a happy hour with FREE beer and nachos. This will be on Tuesday March 27th at Thomson House as of 5:00pm.
You’ll be able to signup for BGSA positions, let us know in what ways you’d like to be involved, get to know what’s available, and just hang out.
All positions are still available to anyone (check my previous emails). Please, if you do not plan on keeping your position within the BGSA for the 2018-2019 academic year, send me an email if you haven’t done so already.
2. MBSU Wine and Cheese + Poster Night March 22@4pm 🍷🍷🍷
It’s that time of year to take over the undergraduate wine and cheese (honestly can’t believe we still get invited to these). In all seriousness, it’s a lot of fun, free wine and cheese (obvs), posters from undergrad research projects at McGill, and the chance to talk to pretty much everyone in the department.
They also give out the award for TA of the year!
The event takes place in the Bellini Atrium/Lobby Thursday, March 22nd! Check out the Facebook event for more details.
3. CEEB Retreat Signup 🌿🌿
Signup is open for CEEB Retreat on April 21-22. This event mixes CEEB profs with grad students and usually has a workshop, a keynote speaker, student talks, trivia, and more.
Fill out this form to attend and/or to give a talk, if you have any ideas/comments.
4. Sustainability Project Fund Referendum: Vote from March 26th – April 1st
For more information: http://mcgill.ca/sustainability/spf
Sustainability Projects Fund (SPF) was created to kickstart a culture of sustainability on McGill campuses through the development and seed funding of interdisciplinary projects. This flagship $870,000 per year program is supported through student fees that are matched dollar-for-dollar by the McGill administration. To date, the SPF has funded over 170 diverse projects, including the McGill Farmers’ Market, a McGill research institute greenhouse in Barbados, and anti-oppression workshops.
SPF referendum will be up for voting by the PGSS community from March 26 till April 1. Since the referendum for the SPF student fee needs to be renewed every 5 years, and it recently expired, PGSS members (graduate students) will soon have to vote for or against this renewal. The SSMU and MCSS have already passed the referendum, so PGSS is the only student society left. Moreover, the university is on board to match the fee paid by the students dollar for dollar. Remember to vote!!
5. Volunteer Recruitment with PGGS: March 28
Due to the increased demand for volunteers, PGSS is putting a list of volunteer opportunities for graduate students (similar to what is currently mostly available for undergrads here “Peer Program Opportunities List”and here, http://mcgill.ca/peerprograms/students-seeking-peer-support).
If you would like to volunteer please see the event page here. If you have other opportunities for grad students that you would like listed on the page please fill out this form by March 23rd at 11:59PM.
Have a great weekend everyone (and happy St-Patricks day) — have fun !!
